Revenge of the Toddler

Girl Terror loves to talk about what she will do when she is grown up. In the past she's focused on things like grow boobies, wear make-up, etc. This weekend, the idea of revenge occurred to her.
She and I had been shopping in WalMart, but things were not going well. There was no listening, no being a nice girl, no sitting safely in the cart. There was a lot of head shaking, "NO" being said, and the end result was I left the store with a kid howling "NO!! I shop!!! Buy stuff! Not go home!" but home we went. After a veeerrry long chat in the car, she understood that unless she listens and is polite, we can always abandon the shopping cart and go home empty- handed.
Later that evening, she was talking with her Daddy.

GT: Daddy, when I get big, I drive car. I go shopping everyday, buy stuff.
Daddy: You like to go shopping with Mummy?
GT: I drive car. I buy stuff. I push cart. Mummy sit in cart, be good and listen to me!

That's what I get to look forward to in my golden years. Being pushed around WalMart, being told to listen and be good, while my child buys whatever her heart desires. She gets to drive the car. I bet she gets to pick the music, too.

That's so funny.

But here's a little secret. Shhhh.
You can have your revenge, too. Throw a tantrum. An old woman throwing a tantrum will get even more attention. She'll be mortified.

Raehan is so right. I'm getting my revenge when my kids are older too. Starting with waking their teenaged asses up at the crack of dawn EVERY SINGLE DAY.

My son wants to know why I am laughing.
Mind you, I have had many of 'those' talks lately, about manners and listening - I wonder what revenge he is planning for me!

That's too funny ... sadly, my 4 year old already picks the music in the car. If I have to hear the Nose song from the Penguin Parade CD, I might scream. Here's a sample: 'If all you saw was a nose would you know whose nose it is? Now you know whose nose it is ....'

However, Itty Bitty Kitty in NYC is a pretty catchy tune. Can't remember that CD though.

Great story! Very funny!

Now seriously...kudos for not backing down! Way to many parents just give in because it is easier! So you have my admiration along with my laughter!
