Picnic fun

Girl Terror loves picnics. She has a book with a little red-haired girl and her Mummy going on a picnic, and so she thinks we should be doing the same. After a great deal of nagging, I finally broke down and we went on a family picnic. Have you tried taking a 3 year old on a picnic? No? Let me give you some advice. Don't go.
We got to the park, and unloaded the car. She wanted to sit in the gazebo and eat. I said no, the stairs would be dangerous for Boy Terror, and besides, we had a blanket to sit on. She threw a fit. We sat down, got out the food, and she ate one bite. Said she was done. Said she was off to the playground. When Hubby told her to sit down and eat, she threw a fit. After every bite, she said she was done. She wanted to run, spin, lie on the grass, go on the slide. Not eat. I had expected Boy Terror to not eat, but he was content to sit on my lap and scarf down everything in sight. I thought that after the months of whining, Girl Terror would be thrilled to be actually at a picnic. But no. She wanted to be done, so we could go play. She wasn't nice about it, either. She whined, she yelled, she gave snotty attitude. Hubby and I don't let her get away with that crap, so in the end he and Boy Terror went to walk in the grass, while I sat with Girl Terror on the blanket, letting her know that her options were to sit and eat politely, or get in the car to go home. I don't know about her, but I wasn't having fun yet!
Eventually she ate enough, calmed down, and we went to the playground. Everyone had a lovely time, she left without a fuss when it was time to go home, and it ended on a good note.
I thought we were done with the picnic phase, but no. Every time we drive by the park, she talks fondly about our picnic, and wants to know when we can do it again. Yeah, right.
