If the shoe fits, wear it to death. I'm not buying anymore.

I don't think I'm generally a cheap person, but I am getting sick and tired of paying for kids clothes. No, I don't want the Terrors to become nudists. Trust me, they don't need my encouragement. No, my problem is the general cost of clothes. The idea of spending $30 on a pair of pants that will fit no more than a year kills me. I get most of their stuff at WalMart, since it's cheap, and I would rather buy lots of cheap stuff and do less laundry. Occasionally, I buy them "Nice" outfits for special occasions, or for picture day. NO MORE!!! The lovely little dress I bought Girl Terror from the baby/kid clothes shop downtown shrank. Lots. She wore it a few times, I washed it, and now it is going into the box for Amaya, who even though she is a year younger, might be too big for the teeny shrinking dress. Last summer, I bought Girl Terror a dress for her birthday party, at the same place. I might still be making payments on it, who knows. Anyway, the first time I washed that one, the seams fell out. I would think it's my laundry technique, but cheapo clothes make it through the system just fine.
If a shirt for me costs $25, then I think I shirt for Boy Terror, who is a quarter my size, should be a quarter of the price. But to find such a thing is next to impossible. Don't get even get me started on shoes. How does that kid know when I've bought him new shoes? How does he get the message to his feet to grow overnight?
I even try to plan ahead, take advantage of end of season sales, all that. Last spring I bought Boy Terror a snowsuit for this winter. It was wonderfully inexpensive. I remember saying to Hubby "Look at the size of this thing. Surely he won't be bigger than this by next winter. I mean really, he'd have to outgrow his sister for that to happen!" Guess what? He's worn that snowsuit once. And he couldn't sit down or bend over in it. So now, I have to buy him a new one, in prime price gouging season, so that he can wear it outside twice this winter.
Maybe being nudists isn't such a bad thing.

I totally agree!! I'm cheap when it comes to kid clothes. Resale shops and that sort of place are great...even for some of the better stuff.

I have three teenage daughters, so I feel your pain. We buy most at Walmart and Goody's. The girls only buy pants at Goody's because the shirts shrink after the first wash. They go to the Thrift shops to buy old t-shirts.

I shop for my 7 year old almost exclusively at thrift stores, and I get constant compliments on how cute her clothes are!

You need one of those Salvation Army stores. They are the greatest thing since bread boxes.

I almost always buy used clothes. Resale shop are awesome. I resell the clothes when my kids outgrow them so I get something back too.

I love Target! You can easily buy shirts for $5 there! I heard Walmart has a line out called "George". It imitates upscale clothes. I saw an outfit there that looks like a "Nautica" outfit my 1 year old got when she was born as a gift (I'd never buy Nautica). In addition to Target I love hand me downs.
