If this is getting old, I'm all for it.

Today is my birthday! I am now 36. Not 37, as I believed for about a month this fall. Yes, I am old enough to forget my own age.
Yesterday, we celebrated. Hubbby helped the Terrors wrap presents (in Santa paper) and then 5 minutes later, I got to rip it all open. Hubby gave me a green ipod nano, and I am so in love with it I might never take it out of my ears. He also loaded it with all my music, since left on my own I would probably blow up the computer. Girl Terror gave me puppy slippers, which she picked out all on her own. Boy Terror gave me Shel Silverstien's "Where the Sidewalk Ends". I tried to be surprised, but I think I had more of a clue than he did. Hubby and I took the Terrors to my school to visit the science rooms (snakes! Iguana! Bones!) and they loved it.
Friends came over for supper (haystacks and cake), and brought wine, candles and flowers. We ate till we waddled, and visited, and had a truly nice evening.
My parents called and sang "Happy Birthday" to me over the phone yesterday, and today my Nanny called to wish me happy birthday. Last week, Nanny turned 87. I had to ask, I didn't remember how old she was. She, however, had no trouble remembering my age. She's a sharp one, that Nanny.
A pretty apple green iPod. Slippers. Chocolates and a book. Flowers, wine, and cards. I love it all, I appreciate the gifts and the thoughts that go into them. But the things that filled my heart were less tangible.
Girl Terror climbed into my bed yesterday morning, and pressed her nose against mine while she sang her very own version of "Happy Birthday Mummy". Boy Terror hugged me, and kissed me. The look of amazement on Girl Terror's face when Hubby took apart the model eye to show her the insides. Their little voices in the school hallway, calling out "Bye bye, snakes! Bye bye lizard!" My grandmother, who sometimes slips into a world in her mind that I don't understand, calling across the country just to tell me Happy Birthday. She can't always remember the past year, but she knows to the day how old I am and what my favourite nickname is.
I cannot wait to see what the next year has in store.

What a sweet recollection of a memorable day. Thank you for sharing this with us: I'm so glad your birthday was a happy one!

And if you have any iPod questions, don't be shy. For some reason, reporters want to know what I know about Apple products these days.

I wish I understood why :)

More of your favorite nickname, of course. And chocolate. You always gotta get chocolate.
