The dentists aren't all bad

Remember back in April, when I said I hated my dentist? Well, I found a new dentist. And I don't hate her! She came highly recommended by Hubby, who seemed more impressed with her cuteness than with her tooth-knowledge. At any rate, I went and saw her on Monday. That's when I fell in love. She was gentle. She smiled. She listened to me, and didn't say "Why did it take you 5 years to get this taken care of?" or any of the other things I was afraid of. She said that she most certainly could take care of the broken shard of tooth poking through my gums. In fact, she said to come back in TWO DAYS!! No waiting for the oral surgeon to arrive. No useless x-rays. No making me want to strangle someone. I floated out of there in a haze of rosy love for the dentist.
Yesterday, I went back and she stuck needles full of drugs into my face, and pulled out the tooth root that has been the "root of my problems" (ha!) for five years. I didn't enjoy the pulling, or the needles, but I still loved her. She sent me off with a couple of Advil and a smile. Still loving.
Flash forward to 6 in the evening. The drugs wore off. The roaring pain arrived. I took more drugs. They didn't go anywhere near touching the pain in my mouth. By 7:30, I was wimped out and sitting in out-patients, begging for something stronger, please dear lord give me drugs or shoot me now.
Nice lady doctor gave me Demerol (woo hoo! High as a kite for 10 minutes before CRASH! into unconciousness) to take the edge off. I was happy happy happy until 3 AM. More Demerol. More flying. 7 AM, I realized that I was still not sleeping, still in pain, and not going to school.
I just got off the phone with the dentist. She thinks that perhaps I am allergic to the freezing agent. That would be why I have a stabbing pain in the spots where she stuck the needle. The actual tooth-hole? Not a problem!
Those of you who know me will not be surprised by this little story. If something can go wrong, it will. If it's possible to have any sort of reaction to anything, I am lined right up. I don't know why I thought this might be different. It must have been her cuteness, because I would go back to her in a heartbeat, especially if she gave me more Demerol.

That reminds me -- my teeth were a mess after my fourth pregnancy, and I had to go to the dentist a lot. I used to savour my time in the chair -- free from obligations, while I enjoyed the gas!

Somebody prescribed me some oxycontin about a week ago. After I quit taking it I no longer slept for 24 hours a day. Nasty stuff.
