Cutting the umbilical cord.

Very few things in life are as cute as little girls at a birthday party. Girl Terror went to her very first "All by myself, none of you are invited except me" party this afternoon. To say she was excited would be like saying the pope sometimes says grace at lunch.
For the past week, every day we've counted down days until Jordanna's birthday. We've talked about how right now, they are both four. But in 7, 6, 5, 4, etc days, Jordanna will be FIVE! and Girl Terror will still be four. But then! In 10, 9, 8, etc days, guess what?! It will be Girl Terror's BIRTHDAY!! And she will turn FIVE!! Just like Jordanna!!
Yes, my daughter talks in capital letters, with many, many exclamation marks. That also sums up her personality pretty well.
I discovered something new about me as a Mummy today. I want to know every single thing. I hated leaving her for the afternoon, but I did, since if I had stayed it would have ruined her day. But I want to know exactly what she said. What the other kids said to her. Did she play? Does she have social skills? Did she remember to go pee in plenty of time? Were the snacks good? Did she fit in? Was she a reject, and didn't realize it? How did her gift compare to the other gifts? Did she like the games? Did she do anything weird, or is she cuter than life itself, even when I am not there?
I think it's time to take a step back, breathe deeply, and let her go. Also, I want to invest in some high powered binoculours and a mini tape player that I can strap under her shirt. You know, so I can feel like I am right there with her.

Yes she is cuter than life itself even when you are not there!!! She had wonderful manners (said all her please and thank yous..which was not always the case with the other birthday party goers!!) Met some new kids and played really well with them all. Plus she wanted 2 pieces of the birthday cake and since it was my first attempt at cake and icing from scratch that made my day!!

Buffy....the birthday party Mommy who thought she felt someone spying on them all day..lol

That binoculars and tape idea is excellent. Trying to get info from my boys is like trying to get blood out of a stone.

"Did you have a good time? What did you do?"

"Oooh - nothing."

"What did you eat?"

"Ummmm...dunno."

Gah!

Wait till she goes to school for 8 hours long, comes home and when you ask, "What did you do at school today?" she's going to say, "Nothing."

oh...you are gonna have a hard time when she starts school this fall and thinks her kindergarten teacher is the smartest woman in the world.

I think we should be able to equip our children with mommy cams so we don't miss anything. Though my time has passed for that, now that my daughter is 21...
